About the Project
Editorial design and art direction for Visual Voices, an anthology created in partnership with Loud Arts Society of Calgary as part of CIWA’s Collaborative Action Initiative. The publication brings together artwork, poetry, and personal stories from 29 immigrant women and girls exploring gender-based violence, gender roles, cultural beliefs, resilience, and gender justice.
Opportunity
Visual Voices is an anthology of artwork, poetry, and personal stories exploring gender-based violence within immigrant communities. The publication was created through a series of intergenerational art workshops in partnership with Loud Arts Society of Calgary.
I designed the editorial layout and visual system for the publication, creating a flexible structure that could accommodate a mix of artwork, poetry, and longer-form stories. The goal was to let the content lead while keeping the overall publication cohesive and easy to navigate.
Typography, pacing, image placement, and consistent page structures were used to create visual rhythm throughout the book, while giving each contributor's work room to stand on its own.
